HER STORY

What happened and when

A dated account of Mumma’s illness, hospital admission and treatment so far.

Fever, severe pain and worsening weakness

Mumma developed fever, severe joint and body pain, stiffness and swelling. The fever would come down briefly after medicine and then return. Her weakness worsened until she could not get out of bed or walk without help. Her urine output also fell.

Admitted and received her first haemodialysis session

She was admitted to Alchemist Hospital, Sector 21, Panchkula, Haryana, with severe kidney dysfunction on top of chronic kidney disease. Her creatinine was 6.49 mg/dL, urea 229.4 mg/dL and potassium 6.28 mmol/L. Urine tests showed many pus cells and blood, and the hospital recorded urosepsis. She underwent her first haemodialysis session that day.

Second haemodialysis session and follow-up tests

She underwent her second haemodialysis session. Her tests showed creatinine 6.12 mg/dL, urea 240.4 mg/dL and potassium 6.12 mmol/L, and the hospital team continued monitoring her kidney function and blood salts.

Follow-up tests showed some readings coming down

Creatinine was 5.61 mg/dL, urea 208.9 mg/dL and potassium 5.10 mmol/L. These results were lower than the previous recorded readings, though they still required hospital monitoring.

Hospital treatment and monitoring continued

She remained admitted while the team monitored her kidney function, blood salts, urine output and nerve weakness. No separate test readings for 7 October were included in the information shared.

Doctors advise continued admission

Mumma remains in hospital. Her doctor has advised around seven more days of admission for treatment and monitoring of the infection, kidney function, urine output and neurological weakness.

Latest test results and heart rate

The readings recorded on 9 October were sodium 142, potassium 4.24, chloride 107.2, urea 174.6, creatinine 4.48 and uric acid 7.8. Her heart rate was 82.

Severe nerve weakness and planned IVIG

The nerve test recorded acute sensory-motor axonal neuropathy, which means the nerves involved in feeling and movement are affected. She has severe weakness in both legs. The doctors plan to treat her for a suspected Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS)-spectrum or immune-related nerve condition with IVIG, planned to start on 10 October.

WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP

Insurance helps, but it does not cover everything

We do have health insurance, and it is helping with some costs. However, it is not covering all expenses arising from her prolonged admission, treatment and related care. The remaining costs are becoming difficult for our family to manage, so I am asking friends and colleagues for help.

A lower kidney marker is encouraging, but it does not by itself mean kidney function has recovered. A dash means no value for that date was included in the information shared. Units are omitted here for readability.
